AUC Libraries
Off-Campus Access

AUC library users have online access to a large collection of electronic resources, including eJournals and eBooks, as well as indexing and statistical databases.  Authorized AUC library users may access most of these resources from any Internet connection from office, home, hotel, café, or conference center.

Am I an Authorized User for Off-Campus Access?

The Library's license agreements permit off-campus access to the following categories of users:

  • Currently enrolled AUC Undergraduate and Graduate Students
  • Current AUC Faculty (holding valid AUC ID card)
  • AUC Emeritus Professors
  • Current AUC Full-time Staff (holding valid AUC ID card)
  • Current SCE Full-time Faculty (holding valid AUC ID card)

The library is not permitted to provide off-campus access to the following categories of users:

  • AUC Part-time Staff
  • SCE Part-time Faculty or Staff
  • SCE Students
  • Visitors
  • Alumni
  • Faculty Spouses

However, access remains available for on-campus library users.

How does Off-Campus Access work?

On-campus access is from any wired or wireless connection on the new campus in Katamaya, and no log in is required.  When accessing eResources from any other location, the AUC Library login window (see below) will open prompting for name and barcode from the back of the AUC ID card.  If the login is successful, the resource or database will open.

To access a database from off-campus, go to the Find Articles webpage and select a database.
To access an electronic journal, go to the E-Journal Finder webpage, and search by Title or Subject.
To access electronic books, go the Library Catalog and search by Author, Title, or Subject.

Why is my login denied, when I am an Authorized User?

If your name and bar code number are entered correctly, authorized Users whose login is denied indicates their library privileges have been suspended.  Contact the Circulation Desk in person, by email, or by phone at 2615-3776 to verify your status and privileges.

When I am in my office, do I have to log in?

If your office is on the new campus in Katamayah, no log in is required.  If you office is on another campus, such as Tahrir or Zamalek, it is considered Off-Campus Access for which log in is required.

Are all of the library databases available off-campus?

The vast majority are available off-campus.  However, due to licensing restrictions, a very few are not.  These few resources are designed as CAMPUS ONLY on the Find Articles webpage.

Can I access eBooks from off-campus also?

Yes.  To access eBooks, go the Library Catalog and search by Author, Title, or Subject.  Or, go to E-Book Resources for links to the library’s eBook vendors.

How do I get help if I'm having trouble accessing from off-campus?

If you have a problem accessing any of the library's electronic resources, send an email to eResources@aucegypt.edu.  Please include the URL, and an explanation of what you did before access was blocked or denied.  If possible, include in the email a screen shot of the webpage.  We need to know the link you clicked or the URL you used to access the resource, and the exact details that displayed as a result.

But what if … ?

Please submit any other questions, comments, or suggestions to eResouces@aucegypt.edu.
